Buying
How do I buy notes?
Add notes to your cart and pay by card or instant EFT through Yoco. Prices on listings are the seller's price. At checkout a processing fee is added as its own line so you can see it before you pay.
Can I read the notes before I buy?
Each listing shows preview pages chosen by the seller, plus the seller's marks and reviews from other buyers.
Can I get a refund?
Notes are digital products. Once you open or download a file you can't get a refund, and you tick a box to confirm this before you pay. If a file is broken or a listing is taken down for copyright, email us with your order number and we will look at it. Our Refund Policy has the details.
How do I get my notes after buying?
They stay in your library for good. Read them on the site or download them as a PDF. Every download is stamped with your name, email and order number. You can download each item up to 10 times a day.
Who can review a note?
Only people who bought it, once per note. We email you 3 days after you buy to ask for a rating.
Selling
Who can sell?
High school students in Grades 8 to 12 and recent matriculants. You must sell notes you made yourself.
How much do I earn?
You earn 85% of the price the buyer pays for the note. Study Market keeps 15%. If a buyer uses a discount code, you earn 85% of the lower price.
What can't I sell?
Textbook pages, past papers, teacher handouts or anyone else's work. You are responsible for what you upload. Listings that break this rule are removed.
How do I set a price?
You choose any price from R10. We suggest one based on your grade, your marks, the quality of your notes and what similar notes have sold for.
Can I scan handwritten notes?
Yes. Take photos in the listing flow, crop and reorder them, and the site turns them into a PDF in your browser.
Verification
What does the green tick mean?
A person at Study Market checked that the mark matches your school report. Unverified marks show without a tick.
How do I get verified?
Upload your latest school report in your seller profile. An AI model reads the marks and an admin checks them before the tick appears.
What happens to my report?
It is stored privately and only admins can see it. We delete it 30 days after the verification decision. We keep only the verified marks, term and year.
Payments and withdrawals
When can I withdraw my earnings?
New earnings show as pending for 3 days. After that they are available to withdraw.
What does a withdrawal cost?
You can withdraw any amount from R100 up to your available balance, to any South African bank account. Each withdrawal costs R5. You see the maths before you confirm, for example: you withdraw R200.00, fee R5.00, you receive R195.00.
How long does a payout take?
Every withdrawal is checked by an admin first. Once approved we pay it into your bank account by EFT, usually within 2 working days. If a payment fails the money goes back to your wallet and we email you.
Do you keep my bank details?
Yes, so we can pay you by EFT. We store your account number encrypted, only admins making a payout can see it, and your account only ever shows the last four digits.
Why is there a processing fee at checkout?
It covers the fee Yoco charges to process the card payment. It is added for the buyer at checkout only. Sellers' earnings are not reduced by it.
Under 18
Can I sell if I'm under 18?
Yes. We ask for a parent or guardian's name and email and send them a link to confirm. Until they confirm you can set up your profile, draft listings and buy notes.
What can't I do until my parent confirms?
Publish listings, appear in Study Market marketing, upload a school report, and accept tutoring requests.
Can a parent change their mind?
Yes. A parent or guardian can withdraw consent at any time using the link in their email. Withdrawing pauses the child's listings and removes them from marketing.
Tutoring
How does tutoring work?
Tutors list themselves and tutees send a request. Lessons and payment between them happen off the site. Study Market only makes the introduction.
What does it cost?
Requesting a tutor is free for the tutee. A tutor pays a placement fee when they accept a new tutee: a flat R100. Their first accepted request is free.
What if a tutee never replies?
If the tutee doesn't reply within 7 days, the tutor can tell us. We email the tutee to check. If they confirm, or don't answer within 48 hours, the fee returns to the tutor's wallet as credit for future placements. It can't be withdrawn.
Who sees my contact details?
Nobody, until a tutor accepts a request and the placement fee is paid. Then each side sees the other's name and contact details.
How many tutors can I contact?
Requests expire if a tutor doesn't answer within 5 days. You can have at most 3 requests open at a time.
Safety and reporting
How do I report something?
Every listing, review, profile and tutor has a report link. Reports go to our admin team. Admins can hide any content.
How do I report a copyright problem?
Use the copyright complaint form. We pause the listing while we look into it. If 3 complaints against a seller are upheld, we suspend their account.
How do I stay safe meeting a tutor?
Have the first session online or in a public place. If you are under 18, tell a parent before you meet. We don't do background checks on tutors.
What can't I put in a bio or review?
Phone numbers, email addresses and social media handles. We block them in public text.
Your data
What do you collect?
Only what we need to run the site. Your date of birth, contact numbers, bank details and school reports are never public.
Can I download or delete my data?
Yes. You can download your data and delete your account from your account settings. We keep the order and ledger records we need for accounting and remove the rest. Notes you already bought stay with the buyer.
Who handles my data?
Cloudflare (hosting and storage), Yoco (payments) and Resend (email). Our Privacy Policy lists what each one does.
