Study Market

How Study Market works

Students sell the notes they made, buyers can see the seller's marks before they buy, and tutors get introduced to students who need help. Here's exactly how each part works, including what we charge.

Selling

Turn your notes into money

You keep 85% of every sale. Study Market keeps 15%. Listing is free.

  1. 1

    Set up your seller profile

Add your school, grade and the marks you got. Upload your school report to get a verified tick next to your marks: buyers trust verified sellers more, and they rank higher. Under 18? A parent or guardian confirms by email before you can publish.

  2. 2

    List your notes

Upload a PDF, or photograph handwritten pages and we turn them into a PDF on your phone. Pick a few free preview pages so buyers can see the quality. Notes must be your own work: no textbook pages, past papers or teacher handouts.

  3. 3

    Set your price

Choose any price, or list them free. We suggest a price based on what similar notes sell for, adjusted for length, your marks and the quality of your notes.

  4. 4

    Get paid

Every time someone buys, you earn 85% of what they paid for the note. New earnings are pending for 3 days, then you can withdraw from R50 to any South African bank account. Each withdrawal costs R5.00. We check each payout and pay it by EFT, usually within 2 working days.

Example: a note listed at R100

Note price
R100.00
Study Market (15%)
-R15.00
You earn
R85.00

Example: withdrawing your earnings

You withdraw
R200.00
Withdrawal fee
-R5.00
Paid into your bank
R195.00

The card processing fee is paid by the buyer at checkout, so it never comes out of your earnings. If a buyer uses a discount code, you earn 85% of the discounted price.

Buying

Notes from students who got the marks

See who made the notes, what marks they got and a preview before you pay. Your notes are ready the moment you've paid.

  1. 1

    Find notes for your subject

Browse by curriculum, grade and subject, or search. Each listing shows the seller's marks (with a tick if we've verified them against a school report), reviews from other buyers and free preview pages.

  2. 2

    Pay securely

Add notes to your cart and pay by card or instant EFT through Yoco. A small card processing fee is shown as its own line at checkout before you pay. Free notes cost nothing and skip payment.

  3. 3

    Get your notes straight away

There's no shipping or waiting: they're delivered to your library on Study Market as soon as your payment goes through. Read them on the site or download the PDF, up to 10 times a day per note. They stay in your library for good.

  4. 4

    Changed your mind?

You can cancel within 7 days for a full refund, as long as you haven't opened or downloaded the notes yet. Once you've opened them, the sale is final, unless a file is broken or a listing is removed for copyright.

Example: buying a R100 note

Note price
R100.00
Card processing fee
R4.00
You pay
R104.00

Every download is stamped with your name and order number. Notes are for your own studying, not for sharing.

Tutoring

Find a tutor, or become one

We introduce students to tutors who got the marks. Lessons and payment for lessons happen directly between you and the tutor.

Looking for a tutor

  1. 1

    Pick a tutor

Filter by subject, grade, curriculum, online or in person, and price. Every tutor shows their marks and hourly rate.

  2. 2

    Send a free request

Say what you need help with. It costs you nothing. If a tutor doesn't answer within 5 days the request expires, and you can have up to 3 open at a time.

  3. 3

    Get introduced

When the tutor accepts, you both get each other's name and contact details by email. You agree on times and pay the tutor directly. Under 18? The introduction also goes to your parent.

Becoming a tutor

  1. 1

    Set up your tutor profile

Add the subjects and grades you teach, your marks, your hourly rate and whether you teach online or in person. Listing yourself is free.

  2. 2

    Accept the students you want

When a student requests you, you choose whether to accept. Accepting costs a flat R100 placement fee, and your first accepted student is free. Everything you charge for lessons is yours.

  3. 3

    Covered if a student disappears

If a student never replies within 7 days of being introduced, tell us. If they confirm, or don't answer within 48 hours, the fee comes back to you as credit for your next placement.

Safety: have the first lesson online or in a public place, and if you're under 18, tell a parent before you meet anyone. We don't run background checks on tutors.
